Comic Shop Assistant takes a snapshot of your item inventory levels at the beginning of each month (it does not take a snapshot of your back issues at this time).

You can also create a manual snapshot at any time by going to MORE > INVENTORY SNAPSHOTS. Please don't do this all the time, as it's data-intensive. But please DO do it whenever you need to.

HOW DO I ACCESS THIS REPORT?

  • From MORE > INVENTORY SNAPSHOTS, select the snapshot you want to view reporting for and click the VIEW INVENTORY AGING REPORT button.

WHAT DOES THIS REPORT TELL YOU?

  • This report gives you a list of all items that were in stock at the time of your snapshot, and it gives you a pre-aged value (quantity times your price) as well as an aged value (taking into account the rules you set in your CATEGORY + TAXES page).

WHAT IS AN AGED VALUE?

  • Depending on how you value your product, you may want to report that your new comics that have not sold for the past year are only worth ten cents instead of cover price. Or, you may decide that comics that are a year old are worth 40% of their cover price. The AGED VALUE column on this report does that math for you.
  • To configure your aging calculations, visit MORE > CATEGORIES + TAXES and assign aging days (how many days old an item must be to trigger an aged value), an aging type (by dollar or by percentage), and an aging value (.10 to value an old issue at a dime, or 40 if you want to age by percentage).

OTHER COOL INFORMATION YOU CAN GLEAN FROM THIS REPORT

  • This report gives you an easy way to find items that do not have categories. It's highly recommended that you give those items categories.

IMPORTANT TO NOTE

  • Sometimes your inventory snapshot will have bad data (recently, I discovered an item that had been checked in with a barcode as the quantity, so we had millions of items). This report lets you edit the snapshot's linked item or the quantity. Please note that editing these only edit the snapshot, and does not edit the item itself.

LIMITATIONS

  • The inventory snapshot only records itemID and quantity at a point in time. So if you change an item's price or category after the snapshot, the snapshot does not know you made those changes.
  • Items without a DATE FIRST IN STOCK will not be aged. Migration from some systems does not include this information. Editing your inventory levels on an item instead of checking items in via invoice does not automatically set a DATE FIRST IN STOCK.
