Upload your pulls barcodes
Okay, so you've uploaded your scanned barcodes. Theoretically, everything you scanned will have a matching product within CSA. But comic and retail data is messy, so there are bound to be some exceptions that need a human to figure out what's going on.
- From your inventory update project, click on the REVIEW AND COMMIT INVENTORY ADJUSTMENT button near the top right.
- This page has two sections. The top set of line items shows everything you scanned. It will let you whether or not CSA was able to successfully match the barcode to an item in your catalog.
- It also notes if you scanned items that are in a category that is not represented by your inventory adjustment project settings.
- The bottom section shows you everything in your catalog that has a non-zero inventory quantity and does not have any scans associated with the item.
- You can leave this page to add more scan files or assign more categories to the project if you wish. Be sure to reload this page if you make those kinds of changes in another browser tab.
FIRST, LET'S REVIEW THE BARCODE MATCHING INTERFACE FOR EVERYTHING YOU SCANNED.
- Most of your items should have successfully matched. Successfully matched lines will be grey, and show you the item they matched to as well as your current inventory level, how many copies are represented by your uploaded scan files, and what the change will be when you commit your inventory adjustment.
- If Comic Shop Assistant can't detect an exact match to a scanned barcode, it will turn the line red, and the word UNMATCHED will display in the place of your item title.
- If CSA detects multiple matches to a scanned barcode, it will turn the line red and the words MULTIPLE MATCHES will display in the place of your item title.
- If you have an item in your scans that is in a category not represented in your inventory update project settings, the line will be yellow, and you'll have a drop menu to change the product's category if you wish.
SO WHAT SHOULD YOU DO ABOUT THESE WEIRD MATCHES?
- Each line includes the barcode you uploaded as well as two icons right under it.
- The magnifying glass icon will do a search for your barcode within CSA. This is super helpful in the case of an item with multiple matches. In many cases, you can delete the last five digits from the search to see alternate issues of periodicals or alternate editions of collections.
- The binoculars icon will search Google for the barcode in a new tab so you can try to find out what the item is in your system (things like League of Extraordinary Gentlemen collections, which have multiple barcodes on the back cover can be a nightmare to find, but this tool helps.
- On an unmatched line, you can click the arrows pointing to each other with a line between them (we call this the sandwich icon) to see the barcodes that were scanned immediately before and after this item.
Once you find an appropriate item to match, simply paste the itemID into the itemID field. When you reload this page, it will recognize the item for that barcode.
- For items with categories that you aren't working on, you can either change the item's category or click the red X on the far right of the line to remove it from the inventory updates.
WHAT IF YOU CAN'T FIND A MATCH AT ALL?
- This happens. I wish it didn't. But it does. Depending on your tolerance for missing information, you are safe to ignore missing items. You can remove them from your list of items to update by clicking the red X on the far right of the line.
Once you've reviewed your matches to your satisfaction, and you've got all of your barcodes uploaded, you can continue to the next step to review your items that CSA thinks you have in stock, but which haven't been scanned.
