There are one point six billion reasons you might end up with a category you don't like in your product catalog. Naturally, it would be nice to get rid of the ones you don't need. That's fairly simple to do, with a few things to keep in mind...

  • You don't want to delete categories that have items assigned to them.
  • Some categories are special, and get items automatically attached to them during certain imports. Because of this, we recommend you do NOT deactivate COMICS, BOOKS and GRAPHIC NOVELS.
  • The COMICS category is used when a customer who is down to automatically have bags and boards added to their transaction. So if you rely on that function, you'll want to keep your periodicals categorized as COMICS.

In order to deactivate a category, you should first move items in that junky category to a better category.

To do this, use the ITMS>ITEMS page to bring up a list of all items in the category you want to get rid of.

Then use the bulk editor to assign a better category.

After these items have been moved to the new category, you can go to MORE>CATEGORIES AND TAXES, and deactivate the category you don't want to see any more. We don't delete categories because they touch a lot of reporting and other things. But when you deactivate a category, it stops showing up in most category drop menus, and is dropped to the bottom of other category menus, with an [x] symbol denoting that it's been deactivate.
